The broad portfolio and diverse applications of FITBONE^®, the fully implantable, intramedullary lengthening nail, were outlined in several presentations. Different FITBONE^® devices are available for the femur and tibia, for example, or for treating short residual limbs. A version also exists for segment transport with subsequent lengthening as well as a telescope actuator system for MUTARS® growing prostheses following tumour resections and numerous custom-made products adapted to the particular patient case.

The limb lengthening system has been used successfully several thousand times in all corners of the globe since the first FITBONE^® operation in 1995. Patient experience and statements by the doctors performing the procedures confirm that FITBONE^® is one of the safest and most mature fully implantable limb lengthening systems in the world. The so-called COE (Center of Excellence) concept, which ensures that FITBONE^® is only implanted by selected and specially trained surgeons, plays a vital role here.

The four-day EPOS Congress 2016 in Rome attracted more than 800 participants, including quite a few doctors who as COE partners have been performing successful operations with FITBONE^® for years. They took advantage of the event to engage in an intensive exchange of experiences, significantly contributing to WITTENSTEIN intens’ ability to excite an array of other physicians as potential new FITBONE^® COE partners.
